Belmopan, CAYO. Thursday, April 28, 2016. Belize continues to internationalize the issue of Guatemala’s continued aggressive behavior.

The latest diplomatic offensive was made at the just-concluded 103rd. session of the Council of Ministers of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP) in Dakar, Senegal.

Ambassador Dylan Vernon, who represented Belize at the meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, updated the Council on Guatemala’s recent aggressive behavior towards Belize, including the pronouncements by the Guatemalan government and the mobilization of troops near the Belize/Guatemala border.

At the end of the ACP Council of Minister meeting, the group adopted a resolution expressing their commitment to Belize’s territorial integrity and their concerns over the tensions along the Belize/Guatemala border.

The ACP Ministers Council also expressed their support for the need for confidence building measures for the Sarstoon River and expressed support for efforts at finally resolving Guatemala’s unfounded claim to Belize at the International Court of Justice, (ICJ).
