COLA condemns temporary restriction imposed on Sarstoon River

San Ignacio, CAYO. Friday, April 29, 2016. Reaction to the government’s imposition of a temporary restriction of movement on the Belize side of the Sarstoon River has been pouring in on social media with a mix of emotions.

From outright rejection of the move to considered approval of the decision taken by government, the one-month restriction is not sitting well in some quarters.

This afternoon, the group Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action, (COLA) out rightly condemned the restriction.

COLA calls it a “knee-jerk” law and describes the government’s decision as “a gross act of cowardice.”

COLA goes on to say that today’s announcement of the temporary restriction of movement on the Belize side of the Sarstoon River “proves the government’s lack of priority as it relates to the issue of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

It chides the government for not putting a stop to illegal encroachments but instead is seeking “to muzzle its citizen’s right to free movement in its own country.”

With that said, COLA is calling for “a national shut down,” but offers no further details on how that action would be implemented.

“For far too long Belize has lack true leadership as it relates to this issue and it is time for the citizens of Belize to rise up and demand better,” COLA said in its statement.

    After giving those comments a thought,I am of the opinion that we have the wrong people as our leaders. And that proves to me that I was a fool because I voted for the wrong leader, just because I was given a ham for xmas !!!

      Lawd you should no a vote can’t be bought. But this will teach you next time to do what is best. And honestly is not about politics but our prime minister needs to get his act straight and start doing or maybe he already have his stuff ready to jet out just saying.
