Santa Elena, CAYO. Thursday, March 23, 2017. Investigations have begun to determine what started a fire that gutted two houses on George Price Avenue in Santa Elena town on Wednesday afternoon.

One of the houses that was destroyed belonged to Gerald Vasquez.

According to reports, Vasquez and his wife were upstairs of their house when they were alerted of a fire downstairs.

The blaze quickly spread and by the time it was brought under control by the Fire Service, two houses had been gutted.

An official police report issued this morning confirmed that the fire happened at #25 George Price Avenue in Santa Elena town.

A two-storey building measuring 20 feet by 30 feet was gutted, according to the official police report.

The homeowner tells police that damages amount to $25,000, including household items.

The building was not insured. An adjacent two story concrete   building   measuring   20   feet   by   40   feet was also gutted and the upper flat of a third building sustained scorching and water damages.

The cause of the fire is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Police and the Fire Department.

In the meantime, the victims of the fire are finding refuge with family members and are appealing for assistance from the general public to get back on their feet.
