New champions of High School softball crowned

Belize City, BELIZE. Monday, March 20, 2017. The Edward P. Yorke High School females and San Pedro High School male softball teams have won the 2017 Secondary Schools Softball championship.

The Championship was staged by the National Secondary Schools Sports Association on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18 at the Rogers Stadium in Belize City.

Teams from Belmopan, Belize City, Independence village, San Ignacio town and San Pedro town competed in the two-day event.

Independence High School boys and girls teams both won third place in their respective categories.

Both EP Yorke and San Pedro High Schools won their championship without losing any games.

The Most Valuable Player award for the females went to Charisse Quiros of E.P. Yorke High School.

Her teammate Jasany Westby got the award for being the pitcher with the most wins.

Renisha Richards of Belmopan Comprehensive High got the award for the pitcher with the most strikeouts, posting 23 during the tournament.

The overall best hitter was Charise Quiros of E.P, Yorke who posted the best Batting Average of the tournament.

San Pedro High School

San Pedro High School

On the Male side of the tournament, the Most Valuable Player award went to Christian Orellano of San Pedro High.

A three=way tie for the most wins went to pitchers Lester Games of San Pedro High, Kristan Tillett of E.P. Yorke High and Christian Orellano of San Pedro High School.

Lester Games of San Pedro High struck out the most batters, 10, while his teammate Isaul Coba claimed the award for the most runs batted in.

Jonathan Louriano of E.P. Yorke High School was the best hitter, posting the best batting average for the tournament.
