Punta Gorda, TOLEDO. Wednesday, January 17, 2018. The Closing Season for the Premiere Football League of Belize got off to very competitive start this past weekend with 4 big games.

The Punta Gorda-based Freedom Fighters up-ended their rival Belize Defence Force by a score of 3 goals to 2.

Zidane Hines scored twice in the 17th minute and again at the 18th minute, including conversion of a penalty shot.

The third goal for the Freedom Fighters was scored by George Ortega at the 48th minute.

For the BDF, their goals were scored by Vallan Symms at the 56th minute and Jaren Lambey at tte 89th minute.

The second game featured Belmopan Bandits who played the Placencia Assassins to a 2-2 final score at thee Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence village, Stann Creek.

Goal scorers for he Bandits were Elroy Smith at the 25th minute and Hector Martinez at the 45th minute.

For the Assassins the goal scorers were Alden Foreman at thee 13th minute and Arnie White at the 37th minute.

In San Pedro town, the San Pedro Pirates FC played host to Police United FC and lost by the ugly score of 6 goals to 1.

Goal scorers for Police United were Byron Usher at Minute 36, Minute 53 and Minute 64; Danny Jimenez at Minute 56 and Minute 84 and Andes Makin at minute 66.

The sole goal scorer for San Pedro Pirates FC was Highking Roberts at thee 12th minute of the ballgame.

The final game of he weekend saw the Opening Season champion Verses FC edging the visiting Wagiya FC from Dangriga by a score of 3 goals to 2.

Goal scorer for Wagiya was Jolard Castillo who scored at the 71st minute and again at the 88th minute.

Goal scorers for Verdes were Krisean Lopez at the 22nd minute, Jarret Davis at the 49th minute and David Trapp at the 92nd minute of the ballgame.

Games scheduled for Week 2 will see the Saturday game (January 20) featuring Belmopan Bandits hosting the San Pedro Pirates at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium.

Then on Sunday, Wagiya will host BDF at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga; the Freedom Fighters will host Verdez FC at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda town and Police United will host the Placencia Assassins at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
