Two die in separate traffic incidents

Punta Gorda Town. Sunday, April 5, 2015. Separate traffic accidents on the major highways have left two men dead and another injured.  

The first victim has been identified as 27 year old Victor Underwood, a resident of Biscayne village, Belize District.  

Police say Underwood was knocked on Holy Thursday night by a vehicle being driven by by a 41 year old man from Crooked Tree village.

Police say the driver told them that he was north-bound on the Phillip Goldson highway, when upon reaching mile 21, he knocked down Underwood.  

Underwood was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and died while undergoing treatment.

Police say they have served a Notice of Intended Prosecution on the driver of the vehicle.  

The second fatal road traffic incident happened on Good Friday afternoon.  

It claimed the life of 22 year old Jose Isaac santos, a resident of Red Bank village, Stann Creek district.

Police say that Santos was driving a motorcycle on the Southern Highway around five thirty on Friday afternoon when he lost control around a curve and crashed into a post.  

The passenger who was traveling with Santos managed to jump off the motorcycle before the crash, and he received minor injuries.  

Santos’ body now lies at the morgue at the Southern Regional Hospital where it awaits a post mortem examination.

Police investigations continue.
