UDP elects standard bearer for Stann Creek West

Independence village, Stann Creek. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. The United Democratic Party has chosen a standard bearer to contest the next General Election in the Stann Creek West Constituency.

Three candidates vied for the seat in a constituency convention held on Sunday in Independence village.

According to the chairman of the UDP Alberto August, a total of 3,153 ballots were cast in Sunday’s convention.

When the votes were all counted, retired school teacher Walter Garbutt emerged the top vote-getter with 1,554 votes, making him the new UDP standard bearer for Stann Creek West.

Nathan Young received 1,209 votes, while Ivan Williams received 372 votes.

Walter Garbutt will now go up against the incumbent Rodwell Fergusson of the People’s United Party.
