BELIZE CITY, BELIZE. Thursday, September 29, 2016. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Belmopan and Belize which manages Roman Catholic Schools in Belize is calling on parents to “take note of these special circumstances” as it acknowledged that thee “safety of upwards of 50,000 students in our care will be at risk” when teachers go on strike on Monday, October 3.

In a statement issued this morning, the Roman Catholic Schools management said that the “temporary vacuum” that will be created when the teachers strike on Monday, will leave thousands of children “without adequate supervision of our teachers.”

The Roman Catholic Diocese says that it will continue to monitor the situation and praised the teachers for the invaluable contribution that they make to the development of the country.

The official statement recognizes teachers as “beacons of light” and goes on to laud their contribution to nation building through their dedication, commitment and selfless service, which “make them heroes and a key stakeholder in nation building.”

The release from the Roman Catholic Schools management ends by calling on government leaders “to respect the search for truth in governance and to preserve and protect our governing democratic system as a government ‘of the people, by the people and for the people.'”
