Belize City, Belize. Wednesday, May 6, 2015. American national, 49 year old David Wendel Thompson was given a 15 years jail sentence today after pleading guilty to online enticement of a minor.

Thompson was busted as he tried to lure two Belizean girls ages 13 and 15 into sex with him through Facebook chats.

At his sentencing, Thompson begged for mercy telling the judge that he was scared of going to prison and worried about never seeing his mother again.

A report in the online edition of The Tampa Tribune quotes Thompson telling a federal judge “I’m scared of jail … I’m scared I’ll never see freedom again.”

According to the newspaper report, Thompson swore that he never acted inappropriately toward any child when he was a sixth-grade teacher at Centennial Middle School in Dade City.

He also claimed that he would never have acted on what has been described as graphic Facebook chats with the teenage Belizean girls saying “I thought everybody lied on Facebook … I didn’t believe it was real.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Peresie, according to the Tampa Tribune report, said that at no time during three separate interviews by Homeland Security agents did Thompson make any claims about what he was busted for being a fantasy.

The Assistant U.S. Attorney said that Thompson tried to justify his plans, telling the Agents that it was legal in Belize to have sex with girls as young as 16 ear old but that he planned to only have sex with 18 year olds.

Thompson’s story revolved around a fictitious, poor Belizean girl named Iris Levy who introduced the 13 and 15 year old teenagers to “Big Dave” who was supposed to be rich American who spent a lot of money.

Court testimony show that an acquaintance of Thompson in Belize told US Homeland Security agents that Thompson told her he was interested in girls 15 years older and younger.

When Thompson’s bag was searched in Miami, agents found condoms, erectile dysfunction drugs and two computer tablets, which the prosecutor suggested were gifts for the two teenage girls.

Following Thompson’s release from his 15 years prison sentence, he will serve an additional 10 years on probation.
