The story dominated the news earlier this month when the Guatemala military detained a group of Belizeans that had gone to the border marker at Gracias a Dios.

The group comprising members of the Northern Territorial Volunteers had gone to Gracias a Dios to install a plaque on the border marker between Belize and Guatemala.

They also painted the marker and were on their way back home when they were detained and eventually taken all the way to Livingston, Guatemala.

West Vision has received a couple of photographs and information which shows that the recently painted border marker is without the plaque that was put on by the Northern Territorial Volunteers.

Best information is that vandals, presumably from Guatemala, are responsible for removing the plaque.

Exactly when the plaque was removed is not known.
