Home invasion in Esperanza village; woman critically injured

Esperanza village, Cayo. Sunday, April 19, 2015. A home invasion in Esperanza village, Cayo early on Saturday morning has left a woman hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial in a critical but stable condition.

Shannel Robinson, 27, was chopped to the back of the head and also sustained injuries to her fingers during the brutal attack inside her home early on Saturday morning.

Police say that they received reports of the home invasion around 2:53 am on Saturday and when they arrived at the scene on Mendoza Street in Esperanza, they found Robinson with chop wounds to the back of her head and to her fingers.

Another person, identified as Ralph Mendoza, Sr., was also observed with a stab wound to the foot.

Both Robinson and Mendoza were taken to the San Ignacio community hospital where Mendoza was treated and released.

Robinson however, had to be taken to the KHMH for further medical treatment.

Initial police investigations reveal that Shannel Robinson had just entered her home, when her ex-common-law husband allegedly stomped open the door and proceeded to attack her and Mendoza.

The alleged attacker has since been detained by San Ignacio police and their investigation of this early Saturday morning incident continues.
