Lake I area representative speaks on alleged child molestation report

San Ignacio, Cayo. Thursday, September 24, 2015. The area representative for Lake Independence constituency in Belize, Mark King, today sent out a brief statement on media reports of an alleged child predator operating in the area.

First reported by Channel 7 News, the allegation is that the man who is a convicted sex offender in the United States has been living in the Lake Independence area for some time now and has allegedly been preying on young boys in the area.

In his statement, Minister King, who is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, said that his ministry condemns any form of child molestation in the entire country.

He goes on to say, “as Minister of state presently responsible for both the Ministry and constituency where the alleged predator lives, I ask parents to be very responsible and monitor their children, behavior and outings at all times.”

Minister King says that the Police Department is fully responsible for keeping the accused under guard and to ensure safety in the Lake Independence Community and the public.

King says that every effort should be made to ensure this person is contained and removed from harming any child in our society.

He ends his statement by saying that the Police Department should be responsible enough to ensure that registered offenders deported to the country are monitored on a daily basis.

The Junior Minister in the Ministry of Human Development assures the public, that they are fully aware of this situation and will do everything in its powers to apply the most stringent laws to anyone accused of bringing any form of danger to our children.
