Man gets lenghty jail sentence for sex with underage girl

A man convicted of the crime of having sexual intercourse with a 9 year old girl has been given a lengthy prison sentence. 

Nicannor Fermin, 41 will spend 18 years behind bars for his crime. 

Court documents show that Fermin started having sexual intercourse with the girl when she was nine years old and the abuse continued up until the child entered high school and took the bold step of reporting the abuse to a teacher in 2010. 

Fermin was convicted on six counts of carnal knowledge by a 9-member jury on July 31 of this year.

On the first two counts, Fermin was sentenced to eighteen years on each count because the girl was under the age of twelve years old.

For the other four counts, Fermin was sentenced to seven years in jail on each count. 

All total, that amounts to 64 years in jail; but Justice Troadio Gonzalez stipulated that the sentences are to run concurrently, so Fermin will only spend 18 years in prison. 

Fermin, according to court reports, begged the court for mercy because he has 5 children, three of whom depend on him financially.

But that plea fell on deaf ears and the presiding judge, Justice Troadio Gonzalez told Fermin that he should have considered his parental responsibilities before he allowed the devil to tempt him.
