Prime Minister Dean Barrow chairs CARICOM

Belize City, BELIZE. Thursday, January 7, 2016. TNC: Prime Minister Dean Barrow has taken over the rotating chairmanship of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM.

Effective January 1, Mr. Barrow assumed the CARICOM chairmanship from his colleague, the Prime Minister of Barbados Rt. Hon. Fruendel Stuart.

Secretary General of CARICOM, Irwin LaRoque this week met with Prime Minister Barrow in his Belize City office, to update him on issues before the regional grouping as he assumes the chairmanship.

According to the Government Press Office, when the CARICOM Secretary General met with Prime Minister Barrow in Belize City on Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington, Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Sylvester and Chef de Cabinet CARICOM Secretariat Glenda Itaiba were also present.

Prime Minister Barrow will hold the chairmanship of CARICOM for the next six months.

During Prime Minister Barrow’s tenure as chairman of CARICOM, Belize will be hosting the 27th Inter-sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government next month.
