Teen arrested for assault of young lady and theft of her phone

Police in Belize City have arrested and charged two teenagers, one of them underage, following an attack on a female student on Tuesday of last week. 

The female student reported to police that on October 15, she was walking on Princess Margaret Drive in the vicinity of the UWI when a man of Creole descent grabbed her purse.

The young lady said that she struggled with her attacker, but he punched her in the mouth and ran off with the purse and her cell phone. 

On Tuesday afternoon, the young lady was again walking on Princess Margaret Drive when she recognized her attacker and promptly called the police. 

Quick response by the authorities led to the apprehension of Elwin Pollard, 17, himself a student and Chevon Castellanos, 18.   

Pollard was charged for the crime of robbery and handling stolen goods, while Castellanos was charged for the crime of handling stolen goods. 

Police say that in addition to the telephone belonging to the young lady which they recovered from Pollard, they also recovered from him a Weed Whacker and a touch screen telephone which were also reported stolen. 

Police say that they are aware that one of the suspect in custody has been targeting students in the Princess Margaret Drive/Coney Drive area of Belize City. 

Authorities have also placed uniformed as well as plain clothes officers on patrol in these areas where students are easy targets.
